                                      ARCANGELI THE STORY

                                      Picture
                                      Giuliano Arcangeli,
                                      Italian citizen

                                      Born in 1928

the man who gave his name to one of the most beautiful woodenboat brands on the worlds waters. He started his career in a shipyard in Switzerland, that’s where he learned the profession.

                                      1956
He returned to Italy and did work for almost two years at the Riva yard.

                                      1958
Giuliano starts to build motorboats in his own yard in Sarnico at Lago d'Iseo. In the same year he started the boat-construction-company called
Arcangeli & C  with his friend Giovanni
                                      Besenzoni in a small shed.

Giuliano Arcangeli did the woodwork and Giovanni Besenzoni was responsible for the technical parts.

                                      1960
They built a new shipyard in Sarnico. They've had round about 60 employees at this time.    In the early years about 70 boats left the yard in a year, later they built at least 120 ships a year in their successful period.

At first they built the model Jolly with an outboard engine. It followed open runabouts like Super Jolly, Labrador, Commander and Enrico I they also did build cabin cruisers like the Sebino. 1961

                                      1961
Only five years after foundation they've had representations in Germany and France and they exhibited on the leading fairs in Europe like Milan, Genoa, France and Germany. The cooperation with other yards runs successful. In those years there are totally approximately 1500 Arcangelis were build

of which only a few hundred are left worldwide.1968

                                      1968
Due to national economic crises the Arcangeli shipyard was forever closed.
Giuliano Arcangeli still lives in Sarnico at the age of 83.

His son Alberto runs in Salo at the Lake Garda the "Nautico Salo" (see link below)
A  yard where they offer Riva's for rent and work at the boats and store them.

The only two Arcangelis in the boathouse are the Arcangeli Jolly of Alberto which is

stored at the back in the boathouse, and the Arcangeli Commander which is offered for rent by Classicboatsharing.com (see link)

There are no remains left of the Arcangeli shipyard unfortunately,
also no documentation, drawings or whatsoever at all.

Two stories go around, one that the Riva yard did buy everything that was left in the yard
directly after closing down and did store it somewhere, questions at Riva stay unanswered.
And the other story that goes is that Giuliano Arcangeli himself destroyed all plans, pictures
and what was left in the yard because of his dissapointment of closing down his business.
The last story is the one Alberto Arcangeli tells so proberly thats the true.

So untill now the boats are all there is left, approximately 150 to 200 worldwide.

If you own an Arcangeli, know you got a collectors item.
Be gentle with her, treat her with love and affection, restore her if possible.
Especially the Riviera ,Commander and Brazil are very rear, just a few of these types are left worldwide!

Un Arcangeli è come una donna, il suo amore con tutto il cuore
